Speaking on the need for Competition he said, there is no world without competition. Since the history of mankind, there has been the need to excel and also to be above everyone else. Without competition there is no drive for excellence and the world will be a very boring place to live in. Competition is what makes us work harder towards our goals. Competition brings out the best in us and it results in better outcomes. If there is no competition, there is no motivation to deliver the best, he added.
He told about unhealthy competitive scenario in the present world saying, In this world there is keen competition between animal and animal, man and man, community and community, nation and nation. The increasing number of reality shows on TV currently portrays fully fledged competition wherein everybody wants to excel and acquire more money, fame, prestige etc than the others which does not serve for a peaceful living.
He stated that in present times competition has gotten to dangerously high levels, Competitions are not taken in the way they have to be taken. Urbanization has created competition which in turn results in stress, depression and various mental ailments. Competition is a major factor in education also. Upon receipt of their academic results, students tend to compare their grades to see who is better which should not be done.
He also discussed few startling facts on ill effects of unhealthy competitions in present times by telling about recent studies done by AIIMS on teens.
Speaking on Healthy competitions, he stressed the need for healthy competitions and told the students about the importance of healthy competitions by stating few key principles needed to be understood while competing. It is these key principles that can make one to discharge his duties properly and be successful in life.
